A free text based RPG in your browser

A text based RPG is a role-playing game you play through written descriptions, menus and numbers instead of animated graphics. You build a character, make choices, and watch your stats, equipment and rank grow. Because there is little to render, many text based RPGs run right in the browser, and a text based MMORPG puts many players into the same world at once.

• A character that levels up. You start as a civilian with 500,000 kr and climb 15 ranks by earning respect, and every rank unlocks something new.
• Stats you train. Strength, defense and reflex at the gym, precision at the shooting range. A fight is decided by your stats, your weapon and protection, and the bullets you bring.
• Quests and missions. Crimes pay kroner and respect, and the missions give you something to do every day: a daily ladder, a mission ladder that never ends, and milestones that follow your whole career.
• A living economy. Own businesses, trade shares on the stock market, ship goods between eight cities where prices change every week, and tune the cars you steal.
• Other players. Join or found a gang, pull heists with a crew, fight for territory, and talk in the shared chat and the forum.
• Seasons. NORDKRIM is played in seasons. Season 2 began on September 18, 2026, and everyone started again with 500,000 kr.

The setting is the Nordic underworld, not a fantasy realm: you play a criminal working your way up through eight Nordic cities, and all crime in the game is make-believe. If you came for elves and dungeons, this is a different kind of text based RPG. The minimum age is 15.

NORDKRIM is free to play and runs in your browser, on mobile and on PC. You sign up with Google, Apple or an email address and start playing straight away. NORDKRIM began as a Norwegian-language game, and the English version is new. The website, sign-up, log-in, menus and main buttons are in English, and more of the game is being translated. Some game screens and server messages are still in Norwegian for now, so expect some Norwegian in the chat and in announcements. The FAQ answers 98 questions in English, and the game is made by Studio H3D in Norway.
