Frequently asked questions
Answers about NORDKRIM, the free mafia game in your browser: what it costs, whether it is pay-to-win, how ranks work and whether you can lose your character.
Getting started
Is NORDKRIM free to play?
Yes. NORDKRIM is completely free. You can choose to buy Gold, the premium currency, for convenience and style, but you never have to: Gold can also be bought from other players with in-game kroner on the Gold market, or redeemed with a coupon code.
Do I need to download anything?
No. The game runs in your browser, on mobile and on PC. You can sign up with Google, Apple or an email address and start playing straight away.
How old do I have to be?
You must be 15 or older. NORDKRIM is a fictional game with a mature theme: all “crime” in it is make-believe.
How do I sign up and log in?
You can sign up and log in with Google, Apple, or an email address and password. With email, press “Sign up”, enter your email and a password, and pick your nickname once you are inside. If you forget your password, use “Forgot your password?” on the log-in page and you will get a link by email to choose a new one.
Is NORDKRIM available in English?
The game began as a Norwegian-language game, and the English version is new. This website, sign-up and log-in, the menus and the main buttons are in English, and more of the game is being translated. Some game screens and the messages sent by the server are still in Norwegian for now. Players share one world whatever language they use.
Money and fair play
Is NORDKRIM pay-to-win?
Mostly not. Gold buys time, style and status, not strength. There is one exception: the very best weapon in the weapon shop can only be bought with Gold. All other equipment, including every other weapon and all protection, is bought with kroner at any rank. A specialisation slot (350 Gold) lets you switch careers without losing the level in your old one, but you still have only one active career at a time, and a switch still locks you in for 7 days.
What are kroner and Gold?
Kroner (kr) are the in-game currency you earn by playing, and everyone starts with 500,000 kr. Gold is the premium currency. You can get Gold in three ways: buy it from other players for kroner on the Gold market, buy it for real money in the Gold shop, or redeem a coupon code.
Is there gambling with real money?
No. The casino (blackjack, Russian roulette, dice and poker) and the lotto draws use only the in-game currency, and there is no payout in real money. The house always has an edge, so play for fun.
Ranks and progress
How does the rank ladder work?
You climb through 15 ranks as you build Respect, from Sivilist (civilian) to Capo Don. The ranks in order are Sivilist, Småkjeltring, Lommetyv, Løpegutt, Langer, Soldat, Torpedo, Håndhever, Bøddel, Capo, Konsigliere, Underboss, Boss, Don and Capo Don. Each rank unlocks bigger crimes and new features.
Why are some menu items locked?
Some features open as you rise in rank, so you are not faced with everything at once. A locked menu item shows the rank you need. Roughly in order: casino and lotto first, then extortion, plantation and logistics, then organised crime, Streetfight, street racing and joining a gang, then the stock market and Battle Royale, then founding your own gang, political contacts, and finally the marina. Property and the bunker are always available, because protection should never have to wait.
Can I lose my character?
Not at the moment. The permanent kill feature, called Drep, has been paused since 18 October 2026. Hospital and prison are always temporary, and so is a hit contract on the Hitlist: the target spends three hours in hospital and loses a fifth of the cash they carry and some respect, but keeps the character. When Drep is on, a kill is permanent and the character leaves the game for good, while the account lives on. Kills can only happen in the kill hour between 21:00 and 22:00 Norwegian time, only when the attacker is in the same city as the target, and never while the target is in their bunker. New players are protected from kills for their first 14 days, unless they try to kill someone, put out a contract or own a business.
What are missions?
The Missions page has four parts. The daily ladder is five tasks in a fixed order: commit 3 crimes, steal a car, train 3 sessions, commit 3 crimes in the day’s city and move a shipment. Monthly missions are the same categories on a much larger scale. Milestones follow your whole career. The mission ladder gives you one mission at a time and never ends, with bigger goals and rewards the higher your rank is. Every 100 missions earn a star, and each star makes the kroner from missions 10% higher, up to five stars. Stars keep counting after that, but the bonus stays at 50%. A step-by-step guided tour also walks you through your first actions.
Crime, gangs and fighting
Which cities are in the game, and how do I travel between them?
The game takes place in eight Nordic cities: Oslo, Bergen, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Reykjavík and Ålesund. Under Airport you can travel between them. If you own a plane the trip costs fuel; otherwise you pay for a commercial ticket. Travelling always takes time, and you stay in your old city until the countdown ends.
How do I start or join a gang?
Go to Gangs to found your own gang (it costs kroner and you become its leader) or join an existing one by invitation. Joining a gang opens at rank Løpegutt and founding one at rank Torpedo. The gang roles are Don (leader), Underboss, Capo and Soldat, and the gang shares a treasury. Gangs fight for control of the eight cities: an unowned city can be taken for a large sum from the treasury, while a city held by another gang has to be besieged in a battle both gangs can join. You choose when the attack lands, between 2 and 24 hours ahead.
What is organised crime?
Big heists need a crew. Anyone of rank Torpedo or higher can start a job, and gang officers can start one at any rank. Every job has four roles: driver, security, safecracker and hacker. Anyone can take an open role or be invited. Nine heists are in the game, from a bank job to the Central Bank, and the chance of success depends on the equipment of the whole crew.
What are businesses?
A business is a large, shared enterprise, and only a limited number of each type exists in the whole game. Buying one is expensive and needs rank Soldat, but you can invite other players to work for you. A business earns income only while it has goods in stock, so you restock it to keep it running. The owner keeps the profit of their own business, and employees can take shifts.
How does the stock market work?
The stock market (Børsen) lets you invest kroner in fictional Nordic companies. Prices move in unpredictable trends through the day, and news such as a police raid, a takeover rumour or a big contract can move a price by a few percent. It is a game of chance and no profit is guaranteed. It is open every day from 08:00 to 24:00 Norwegian time and prices stand still at night. There is no tax, but you buy 1 % above and sell 1 % below the price, and brokerage is 1 % each way (at least 25 kr). The market is tied to the game itself, so players’ own businesses move their sector.
What is the Hitlist?
The Hitlist is the bounty board, and it has two parts. Every day you get your own contracts on people from the underworld, with targets and rewards that follow your rank. Player contracts let players put a price on each other’s heads, and both putting out and taking such a contract needs rank Langer. A contract is never anonymous: the target is told who put it out.
Can I attack other players?
Yes. On a player’s profile you can press Attack to fight them. The fight runs over several rounds and is decided by your combat stats (strength, defence, reflex and precision), your protection and your weapon, and it uses bullets. If you win, you rob a small part of the cash they carry (up to a cap) and gain respect, and the loser ends up in hospital. New players are protected, and players hiding in their bunker cannot be attacked.
Account and community
What language is allowed in chat and on the forum?
NORDKRIM is a game about criminals, so rough talk is part of it, but there is a line at language aimed at a person. Racist and ethnic slurs, words that mock disability, grossly sexualised insults and harassment of sexual orientation are stopped automatically before the message is sent. You are told at once and can write the message again.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Under Settings, then Account, you find “Delete my account”. You confirm by typing your nickname, and the deletion cannot be undone: your character, kroner, Gold, vehicles, property and history disappear. Some things have to be cleared first, and the game tells you which, for example leading a gang.
